What makes this little creature so special?

Stag beetles, which are believed to be a lucky charm, are very rare to find. In some cultures, it is believed that they are lucky and bring wealth to the owner.

Importance in the ecosystem

According to a recent scientific data journal, they play an important role in the ecosystem.  They contribute to nature as "significant saproxylic assemblers," which basically means that they help decompose dead wood, keeping the forest ecosystem healthy.

Life Span of Stag Beetle

The life span of these fascinating creatures is for 3-7 years. The size of the males is slightly larger than females. The size of the male stag beetle is 35-75mm, while that of the female is 30-50mm. They are also very lightweight, weighing only 2-6 grams. 

Food for Stag Beetle

Stag Beetles feed on sweet liquids from tree sap and juices from mushy fruits. They use their strong jaws to eat dead wood, which actually helps the forest stay healthy

Where can you find Stag Beetles?

Stag beetles prefer warm, tropical environments and are sensitive to cold climates. You can find them in woodlands, hedgerows, and even some parks and gardens, as long as there is plenty of dead wood around.
