New Delhi: A study by a group of researchers from the Joseph Carreras Leukemia Research Institute in Spain revealed why Catalonian Maria Branyas lived till the age of 117 years. Only 1 out of 10 people make it to living for 100 years, as per Science Alert.

Branyas was a supercentenarian- a person who reaches the age of 110 or surpasses it.

To determine the factors contributing to this achievement, the researchers conducted a comprehensive analysis of her including her genes, diet and other contributing factors. The experts also used different analytical techniques and even conducted several secondary interviews to determine what helps when it comes to longevity and healthy ageing.

The report however is yet to be reviewed by peers to get a rare glimpse and a secondary centenary.

Here's What the Report Found:

As per the research, Branyas had a socially, mentally and physically active life which included spending quality time with family and friends- factors that help to keep dementia at bay.

Furthermore, the study also revealed that Maria had a good diet mostly Mediterranean-style diet that has been generally linked to a longer lifespan. She also had genes with a stronger immune system that helped in protection against heart diseases and in the reduction of cancer risks.

Another interesting thing the experts found was Branyas's love for "Yogurt." According to researchers, her diet's choices help to encourage healthy gut bacteria – and indeed her gut microbiome had the characteristics of someone younger.

"Microorganisms are critical in determining not only the metabolite composition of our body, but also inflammation, intestinal permeability, cognition, and bone and muscle health," the published paper read.

However, variations in our DNA are also considered crucial in determining our morality.

"Remarkably, all the distinct algorithms of age based on DNA methylation yielded the same result," the paper stated.

While most of us won't reach the age of 117 the research does help us understand in understanding how we can give our bodies the best chance to age without damage or disease.
