Chinese badminton legend Lin Dan announced his retirement on Saturday, ending a career that included Olympic gold medals at the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Summer Games, five world championships and four Asian titles.

The 36-year-old Lin made the announcement on his Weibo page, saying that injuries and age had finally forced him to step aside.

The retirement of "Super Dan" as he is known, confirms that he will not compete at the Tokyo Summer Olympics next year.
