Saina Nehwal congratulated PV Sindhu on winning the finals at 'The World Championship'. She praised the winner by tagging her as the first-ever Indian to win the World Championship. PV Sindhu won against Nozomi Okuhara from Japan with the score 21-7 21-7. The finals were played on August 25, 2019, at Basel, Switzerland. The game lasted for a short span of 36 minutes.

The World Championship gold medal is PV Sindhu’s first title of the year. In this match, she defeated the very person she lost to, two years ago. That 110-minute match is still referred to as one of the best matches in the history of badminton. Sindhu’s sharp moves and aggressive attacks this time left little room for Okuhara to retaliate.

An overwhelmed, thankful and delighted PV Sindhu posted a picture of herself holding the medal, with the caption,

'I could not hold back my tears when I saw the Indian flag and heard the National anthem playing. Words can’t express my feelings about yesterday's win at the World Championship. Had been preparing for it for so long. Finally, the wait ended. Several people congratulated the champion on Twitter. One amongst them was the Prime Minister of the country Shri Narendra Modi. He referred to her as ‘stupendously talented’ and lauded praises on her performance. Twitter was pouring in with appreciation for the ace shuttler. A few names amongst them were Gutta Jwala, Himanta Biswa Sarma and Sunil Chhetri. Entities from diverse backgrounds congratulated PV Sindhu on her historic win.
