Los Angeles Clippers' Patrick Beverley and Houston Rockets' Russell Westbrook's feud dates back to 2013 NBA playoffs when Westbrook injured his knee. Beverley had gone for the ball after a timeout and ended up tearing his meniscus. Westbrook was sidelined and missed the playoffs. Westbrook, who then played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, is now a part of the Houston Rockets. The rivals faced each other for the first time in the NBA 2019-20 season on November 14. The teams will play again at the Staples Center on November 23.

NBA: Westbrook-Beverley feud timeline

  • March 2014 – Beverley and Westbrook had to be separated after Beverley took the ball out of Westbrook's hands after a timeout.
  • Playoffs, April 2017 – Westbrook fouled Beverley while appearing to take a swing at his right arm. The incident led to a verbal confrontation.
  • October 2018 – Oklahoma City police was called on the court as preventive measures after Beverley was accused of 'dirty play'. He had taken a dive in the direction of Westbrook's knees. In another match, Russell folded his arms and acted like he was rocking a baby, which indicated that Beverley was too small. During Q2, Beverley at the rim above Westbrook and later mocked him with a rocking-baby action of his own.

  • November 14, 2019 – Beverley's and Westbrook's first match for the NBA 2019-20 was mostly uneventful except for the short moment was Beverley was fouled out and Westbrook waved as he walked out. Later, Russell spoke about Beverley to a sports channel. He called the defender out, stating that he does not guard anybody, and only runs around. He pointed out Harden's 47 points which Beverley could not prevent.
