Australia women's cricket WBBL: Taylor proposes Amanda Jade on field

Amanda Jade Wellington's boyfriend Tayler McKechnie entered the field and proposed to his girlfriend at the end of their WBBL against the Renegades om Saturday.

Adelaide Strikers on Saturday, October 19, registered a six-wicket victory over Renegades in Women's Big Bash League match at Karen Rolton ground in Adelaide. The Strikers cruised to a comprehensive victory with 28 balls to spare after Player of the Match Sophie Devine returned with figures of 1/16 before smashing an unbeaten 72 and West Indies star Stafanie Taylor starred with 3/26, took a catch and also scored a crucial 21, sharing a 62-run stand from 50 balls with Devine.

WBBL: Amanda Jade-Wellington gets a big surprise

Amanda Jade-Wellington did not have a great match as she went wicketless and gave away 28 runs in four overs. While the players were celebrating the win, the leg-spinner's boyfriend, Tayler McKechnie, with help of the South Australian Cricket Association staff members went on to the field, while the players were standing together for a team photo.

He entered the field and proposed to her using a Pokemon card with the words: “Will you marry me?” written on it. He then went down on his knees with the ring leaving her surprised in front of teammates who were celebrating the victory. The video of the moment which happened on Saturday was shared on social media by Adelaide Strikers.

WBBL: Amanda Jade-Wellington reaction and her career

Speaking to an Australian publication, Amanda said that when she saw him on the field, she just thought, 'get off, we're trying to take a team photo'. The 22-year-old had no idea what was happening but felt happy. The cricketer also said that she was still shaking. Amanda made her debut for Australia in 2016 and has played 8 T20Is, 12 ODIs and 1 Test for the national team.

The fifth season of WBBL kicked off on Friday with a match between the Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunders. Adelaide Strikers are currently third on the points table after having played two matches this season winning one and losing one.
