'Be it blue or white', Shubman Gill honoured to represent India

Shubman Gill was finally included in the Test squad following his stellar performances for the India A side. He took to Twitter to express his happiness.

India named their Test squad for the three-match Test series against South Africa on Thursday. Right-hand batsman from Punjab, Shubman Gill was finally included in the Test squad following his stellar performances for the India A side. Taking to Twitter shortly after the announcement of the squad, Shubman Gill expressed happiness over his selection. In his tweet, he called it an honour to represent the country, "be it blue of white". Read his tweet:

MSK Prasad reveals reason for Gill's selection

Speaking over his inclusion in India's squad against South Africa, Indian cricket team Chief selector MSK Prasad said that he is taken up as a backup opener or middle-order player. Currently in a suberb form, India ‘A’ test captain Shubhman Gill scored a smashing 90 runs off 153 balls against South Africa ‘A’ team in the first innings of their match which India won on Thursday. Congratulatory messages poured in for Gill on his selection. ILP franchise Kolkata Knight Riders took to Twitter and wished Shubman Gill the best for the series.

India's squad against SA for Test series

The three-match Test series against South Africa is scheduled to begin after the end of the T20 series later in September. While KL Rahul has been dropped from the Test side, pacer Mohammad Shami was also included in the squad, along with Shubman Gill. Shami has been in controversy following an arrest warrant issued against him by the court on the allegations of domestic violence by his wife. Wriddhaman Saha has been included as the Test wicketkeeper despite a string of poor shows from him and young Rishabh Pant.
