Eden Gardens Day Night Test: 3 of the most memorable pink-ball Tests

India are all set to play and host their first-ever Day-Night Test match in November this year. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Tuesday agreed to the BCCI’s proposal for the same. Bangladesh cricket team, initially touring India for three T20I’s and two Test matches, will now play the second Test of the series at the Eden Gardens under lights.

1.       Australia vs New Zealand, Adelaide Oval, 2015

In what was the first-ever Day-Night Test match in the history of cricket, the Australian team held their nerve to edge past New Zealand by 3 wickets. Australia, having won the first Test, were leading 1-0 going into Adelaide for the third and final match of the series. New Zealand batted first and scored 202. Australia gained a 22-run first-innings lead before dismissing the visitors for 208 in their second innings. Australia chased down their target of 187 with 3 wickets in hand and with the win, the hosts retained the Trans-Tasman Trophy 2-0.

2.       Australia vs Pakistan, The Gabba, 2016

Pakistan toured Australia for three Test matches in 2016-17. The first Test was a Day-Night affair and it was played in Brisbane. Australia posted 429 batting first and then dismissed Pakistan for just 142 to gain a huge 287-run lead. The hosts batted again to set-up a world record chase for the visitors. In a spirited fightback, Pakistan batted for 145 overs to score 450, only to fall short of the target by 39 runs.

3.       West Indies vs Sri Lanka, Kensington Oval, 2018

Going into the final Test of the three-match series, the home side were leading the series 1-0 after a thumping victory at Port of Spain. However, in the third Test, West Indies batted first and gained a 50-run first-innings advantage over the visiting Sri Lankans. The Lankan bowlers fought back and shot out West Indies for just 93 in their second innings. The visitors batted sensibly in their final innings to reach their target of 144. The win ensured that the three-match series was drawn at 1-1.
