India's Test opener Mayank Agarwal brought up his second Test ton in the second Test against South Africa in Pune on Thursday. After losing opening partner Rohit Sharma early in the innings, Mayank Agarwal stood firm and scored consistently, building a partnership with Cheteshwar Pujara. Mayank Agarwal reached his hundred with a boundary off Vernon Philander's delivery, bringing up his second ton with 16 fours and two sixes. With skipper Virat Kohli at the other end, Mayank Agarwal will look to march on towards the double hundred figure just as he did in the previous match. Only two openers have scored back-to-back hundreds for India - Virender Sehwag in 2009-10 and Mayank Agarwal in 2019-20. Cheteshwar Pujara and Mayank Agarwal stitched a partnership of 178 runs before Pujara was dismissed and skipper Virat Kohli came out to bat.

Mayank Agarwal first knocks, then punches

Indian opener Mayank Agarwal survived a scare after he was hit by a bouncer on the helmet off South Africa's Anrich Nortje's screamer on Day one of the second Test in Pune on Thursday. Winning the toss on his 50th match as captain, Virat Kohli put the Indian to bat in the second contest of the Test series. After Rohit Sharma departed early in the innings, Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara attempted to steady the ship for the hosts, who were struggling to face the Proteas pacers. During the 11th over, Mayank Agarwal waws hit on his helmet by a bouncer from Anrich Nortje, such being the impact of the ball that it bounced off Mayank Agarwal's helmet to the boundary behind the stumps on the leg side. The Indian team's support staff immediately rushed on to the field to check on Mayank Agarwal and he was cleared after his helmet was examined for any damage. However, Mayank Agarwal punched the next delivery to the boundary, making his comeback from the bouncer scare in style.
