Chennai Super Kings overcame Delhi Capitals in the 2nd Qualifier at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium on Friday to set up a title clash against Mumbai Indians. The Shreyas Iyer-led side had shown a lot of grit and determination to make it to the top 3. However, it was just not enough against MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings who have a vast experience of handling the pressure in the knockout games.

Things went smoothly for CSK right from the start when the coin landed in MS Dhoni's favour, and he had no hesitation in bowling first. At the same time, even the vociferous Vizag crowd erupted in joy when they realized that the 'Thala' had won the toss. Not only did the CSK skipper have a good day at the toss, but he also had an outstanding day with getting the DRS right that helped in getting rid of Prithvi Shaw. He then took a stunning catch behind the stumps to dismiss Shikhar Dhawan. The CSK bowlers took wickets at regular intervals as Delhi's innings lost its momentum. Colin Munro scored a 24-ball 27. Rishabh Pant then anchored Delhi's innings with a stellar cameo of a 25-ball 38 which included two boundaries and a maximum at a strike rate of 152. In the end, Ishant Sharma's boundary and a six off Ravindra Jadeja's final over took the Capitals to a respectable total of 147/9 in their 20 overs.

In reply, CSK started off on a slow note, and they would have almost lost their first wicket in the very first over of their run chase as openers Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson were involved in a comical mix-up as they went for a non-existent single. Nonetheless, some poor efforts on the field meant that no damage was done.

Watson and du Plessis then started accelerating and added 81 runs for the opening wicket. By the time both openers were dismissed, the defending champions were already on the cusp of victory as the rest of the top order batsmen contributed their end to take CSK over the line.

By the virtue of this win, CSK made it to their eighth IPL final. Both Mumbai and Chennai will now be battling it out for their fourth title, and the winning team will also be the first team to have won the tournament on more than three occasions.
