World Cup 2019 | Fans pray at 'Cricket Ganesh Temple' in Tamil Nadu for team India's World Cup victory

In a country where Cricket is a religion, KR Ramakrishnan, a Lord Ganesh devotee, and a cricket fan has laid the groundwork to a ‘Cricket Ganesh Temple' in Chennai.

The idols in this temple are unique as they are all portrayed playing cricket Ramakrishnan says the temple portrays Ganesha in his 33rd Avatar, as a Cricketer. Ramakrishnan's passion and fandom doesn't stop here, he has also composed special cricket hymns to be sung in the devotion of the unique idols. 

The temple walls sport a lot of posters of cricketers which have Lord Ganesha’s heads instead of the cricketers. The temple is open to all devotees and is not restricted to cricket fans.

Ramakrishnan says that they pray sincerely every four years for Team India to do well at the World Cup. He made claims that the Cricket Ganesh has been helping iconic players like Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, Mohinder Amarnath, K Srikkanth, Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir and Virendra Sehwag. He added that the prayers and hymns here have made Jasprit Bumrah’s the number one bowler in the world. 

Ramakrishnan is confident that the Men In Blue are going to win the World Cup on 14 July and bring the Cup home. 

The founder also has ceremonial prayers for India’s home and away series. The prayers also go on during the Indian Premier League and then, the devotees and fans pray for the success of IPL franchise, Chennai Super Kings. 

Team India has had a great World Cup campaign until now. Their seven-wicket win over Sri Lanka at Headingley ensured that they ended on a winning note and leapfrogged Australia after their 10-run defeat by South Africa. India's win and Australia's defeat meant that the 2011 winners topped the group and face fourth-place New Zealand at Old Trafford. It will be an intriguing match-up as these two sides have not played each other at this World Cup. Their game at Trent Bridge on June 13 was abandoned without a ball bowled. People are already calling it 'the match that was washed out, will now be a knockout'
