England beat New Zealand in an edge-of-the-seat thrilling finale at the 'Mecca of Cricket' in Lord's to win their maiden World Cup crown. At the end of 100 overs, both teams were tied at the score of 241 and then the Super Over also ended in a tie. However, England emerged as the winners of the match owing to the boundary count, with England having scored 24 boundaries in their innings against New Zealand's 17.

Even though the hosts ended up on the winning side, there were many who were not at all convinced with ICC's rules. One of them was Indian vice-captain Rohit Sharma. The Hitman took to Twitter and wrote that some rules in cricket definitely needed a serious look, though he wasn't specific whether he meant the boundaries rule that determined the outcome of the super over or the overthrow rule that saw Ben Stokes getting 6 runs from one ball in a freak overthrow at a critical stage of the match.

Read Sharma's tweet here:

In a nerve-wracking Super Over, England batted first and scored 15 runs. In reply, New Zealand's chase got off to a good start as young gun Jofra Archer bowled a wide delivery on the very first ball. He then conceded 13 runs in the next five deliveries.

In the final ball, the Kiwis needed just two runs for a historic win. Archer bowled a good delivery as Guptill could not make good contact he ran as soon as he hit the ball and was always coming back for two. Nonetheless, a good presence of mind from Jason Roy under pressure meant that Guptill was short of his crease as wicket-keeper Jos Buttler made no mistake behind the stumps as he dislodged the bail and the Eoin Morgan-led side started celebrating while there was a pin drop silence in the Black Caps' dugout.

Guptill was inconsolable after what had just happened. Coincidentally, the Kiwi opener had broken millions of Indian hearts after running out Dhoni in the semi-final four days ago. At the same time, he was also involved in an unfortunate overthrow which ended up awarding six runs to Ben Stokes.

Earlier, the pioneer of India's 2011 World Cup win had also tweeted about ICC's rules where the winner was decided on the basis of boundaries scores. The former cricketer also said that both teams were the winners.
