Antonio Conte was looking for a reaction from his side at home after losing to Barcelona last time out. Stefano Sensi's injury meant Conte was without his trusted midfielder for the tie. Nicolo Barella stepped up in his absence and performed admirably. Marcelo Brozovic gave a man of the match display in the middle of the park for the home side, creating the most chances in the game and assisting one of the goals. Speaking of goals, Lautaro Martinez scored the first for Inter Milan in the 22nd minute after Stefan de Vrij was afforded enough time on the ball to pick out the striker's clever run. VAR intervened but deemed the goal fair as Martinez just managed to remain onside. Antonio Candreva made it 2-0 to conclude a wonderful counter-attacking move.  Dortmund had more of the ball but lacked penetration throughout the game. The away side came close with Jadon Sancho having a couple of good chances but Samir Handanovic was on his toes to protect his clean sheet. Sancho could have possibly been the best player for Dortmund in what was a lack-lustre display by is side away from home.
