Wales international and Manchester United footballer Daniel James and the Manager of Wales National Team, Ryan Giggs have faced heavy criticism from the brain injury charity- Headway after Giggs labelled the Manchester United winger "streetwise". According to reports, James suffered a concussion after the Croatian defender Domagoj Vida clattered him in the draw with Croatia. After the incident, he received the treatment for about 15 minutes during the half-time, however, he was on the field again. According to Giggs, the physio had come in and conducted all the concussions tests, but he was fine. The 21-year-old and Giggs have faced criticism for not understanding the seriousness of concussions.

Headway's criticism

According to reports, the Chief Executive of Headway, Peter McCabe criticizing James and Giggs stated that "If that is the case and James was ‘acting’, it raises serious questions about the player’s understanding of the seriousness of concussion." Further, he stated that they have not only put his medical team under intense and unfair scrutiny but also he has set a dangerous example for those who are watching him at home. McCabe also raised concerns over the use of terms like 'streetwise'. He added that it is unacceptable for players to use concussion protocols for tactical gains.
