Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted for a youthful line-up for the away fixture as James Garner and Brandon Williams were handed starts. Marcus Rashford was resigned to the bench in favour of Anthony Martial. Former United player Zoran Tosic started for the home side. Brandon Williams had a fine game for United as he made a surging run into the box only to be fouled by Nemanja Miletic. The resultant penalty was slotted home by Martial. Despite a loss, the home side had more than a share of chances to equalise. United were made to work for the result with Sergio Romero making fine saves from Takuma Asano and Seydouba Saoumah to preserve United's lead. Phil Jones had a fine game for United, starting as a defensive midfielder.
