Inter Milan striker Alexis Sanchez is set to be out of action for three months after dislocating his left ankle during Saturday's international friendly match against Colombia. The 30-year-old, who represents Chile, was substituted in the second half of the match, which ended in a goalless draw. According to an official statement made by Inter Milan recently, Sanchez has undergone a successful surgery in Barcelona. However, he is only likely to return at the start of 2020, making him miss the peak of the Serie A season.

Sanchez: A part of great teams

Alexis Sánchez turned up for FC Barcelona in 2011 in a transfer from Serie A club Udinese worth €30 million (£25 million). He became the most expensive Chilean player of all time in the process. In his first season with FC Barcelona, Sánchez starred in an attacking trio alongside Lionel Messi and David Villa, helping the club win the Copa del Rey, Supercopa de España, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in the same season. Following the high-profile arrival of Neymar in 2013, Sánchez was transferred to Premier League side Arsenal in a deal worth £31.7 million (€35.8 million) a year later.

At Arsenal, Sánchez quickly established himself in the starting 11 of the team, completing every season in England with double figures in both goals and assists. He also won the FA Community Shield as well as the FA Cup on two occasions, scoring in both the finals. He played an instrumental role in helping Chile to reach the final of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, while further leading the side to their first international victory at the 2015 Copa América, scoring the winning penalty in the final against Argentina. In January 2018, it was announced that Sánchez had completed a transfer to Manchester United.

Failure at Manchester United and transfer to Inter Milan

However, he could not create the same impact at Old Trafford and was not considered an integral part of Ole Gunnar Solkjaer's plans. In August 2019, Sánchez joined Inter Milan on loan for the entire duration of the 2019–20 season.  Sánchez made his debut for Inter when he came on as a 79th minute substitute in a 1–0 win against his former club, Udinese. On 28 September 2019, Sánchez scored his first Inter goal from a tap-in, before he was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for an apparent dive inside the box as Inter won 3–1 against Sampdoria.
