Ligue 1: Paris Saint-Germain suffer shock defeat to Stade Reims

Ligue 1: French giants Paris Saint-German slumped to a 0-2 defeat to Stade de Reims. After winning the clash, Reims advanced themselves to the 8th place.

French giants Paris Saint-German (PSG) incurred their second loss of the season and their first defeat at home in Ligue 1 after 16 months after suffering 0-2 loss against Stade de Reims on Wednesday, September 25, 2019. The Ligue 1 champions, who are still leading the points table with 15 points from their seven games, failed to create chances at the Parc des Princes. After winning the clash, Reims moved to the eighth position with 11 points. PSG didn’t look like the same team that hammered Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League last week.

Unlucky Giants

Boulaye Dia sealed the victory for visitors as he netted a goal with a bicycle kick in added time before Hassane Kamara scored the opening goal in the first half. PSG manager Thomas Tuchel made five changes after the 1-0 win against Lyon. Their key forward Angel Di Maria, who scored a brace against Real Madrid recently, started the match on the bench along with defender Marquinhos. Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani and Mauro Icardi are still absent with an injury. PSG particularly struggled in the midfield as they failed to create chances in the match.

Goal scoring saga

Reims dominated the match from the start with their successful passes that frustrating the hosts. They took the lead in the 29th minute with Kamara’s perfect header. The 25-year-old went past PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas, connecting Marshall Munetsi’s cross. Di Maria replaced Eric Choupo-Moting before half time. Neymar’s PSG was unable to penetrate the Reims defence after the first half and ended up failing to ruffle any feathers in the closing stages too. Brazilian Neymar had previously rescued PSG from defeats in their other Ligue 1 encounters.
