We are in the middle of October, which means that temperatures are set to fall across Germany in the next few weeks. However, that is not why Arsenal's German midfielder Mesut Ozil will be feeling the chill this month. The 31-year old German has found himself frozen out of Arsenal's squad this season. The German playmaker is the highest-paid player at the Emirates but has found himself relegated to making just two appearances for Arsenal this term.

Mesut Ozil played just over 70 minutes in Arsenal's 2-2 draw against Watford, and also managed to make an appearance in the Gunners' Carabao Cup game against Nottingham Forest. Earlier this month, Arsenal manager Unai Emery went on to say that Ozil is more than capable of fitting in the Spaniard's tactical blueprint. However, the Arsenal manager also pointed out that the Gunners have some significant depth in midfield this season.

Once touted as the best playmaker in the world, Mesut Ozil has found game time increasingly hard to come by this Premier League season. Arsenal fans have often singled out the German for a lack of effort on the pitch, but Ozil was quick to shut down rumours that he had lost his place in the Arsenal squad due to a lack of effort. The arrival of Spanish all-action midfielder Dani Ceballos has meant that Mesut Ozil has been pushed further down the order, with Matteo Guendouzi, Granit Xhaka, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Dani Ceballos and Joe Willock all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Mesut Ozil looking for an Arsenal exit?

Even though the German has been frozen out of the squad this season, Ozil has also been voted by Arsenal players as the fifth captain of the team. The German, who currently earns £350,000-a-week, also dismissed speculation that he will be looking for an exit in the upcoming January transfer window. Ozil went on to state that he was determined to run down his current contract with the Gunners; a contract which runs till 2021.
