The goalkeepers took centrestage in the opening Group B match of the MLS is nack tournament as the Seattle Sounders and the San Jose Earthquakes played out a goalless draw at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Friday evening.

Donning face masks and Black Lives Matters tops prior to kick-off, the match started as most sports have done in recent times -  with a kneeling tribute to BLM.

The opening chance came in under a minute when defender Guram Kashia was relieved to his deflection roll wide of the far post, as was his goalkeeper Daniel Vega whose moment in the spotlight came in the 53rd minute to deny Cristian Roldan.

His counterpart between the opposite sticks meanwhile needed strong hands to push Jackson Yueill's venomous effort past the post in the 70th minute.

The draw brings the two sides level on top of Group B with a single point. The Sounders next face Chicago Fire on Tuesday, while the Earthquakes will attempt to shake up the Vancouover Whitecaps on Wednesday.
