In what may bring a smile across the faces of many Chelsea fans, midfielder N'Golo Kanté has signed a renewed contract extension with the London outfit, keeping him with the four-time Premier League champions for five years, the club website confirmed.
From being an absolute no one few years ago, Kante has come a long way to become one of the best midfielders in the world. Known for his incredible interception abilities and workrate, the diminutive Frenchman has risen to prominence in recent years with his menacing displays in the Premier League.
Kante has made quite a name for himself after guiding Leicester City to its first title in their fairytale campaign of 2015-16. He later made a big-money move to Premier League giants Chelsea and subsequently became one of the key figures at Stamford Bridge.
Though, Chelsea had a season to forget last year under Antonio Conte, but Kante remained a standout performer for the Blues. He has continued his venomous form under new coach Maurizio Sarri, playing every minute of the Premier League this season.
"I'm happy to extend my time with Chelsea, it has been two beautiful years and I wish for more to come," the 27-year-old told Chelsea's official website.
"Since I came, I completely improved as a player, challenged myself and got some awards I never thought about. I like the city, I like the club and I am happy to be here for more time."
Sitting at the heart of the midfield, N'Golo Kante was instrumental in France's World Cup success. In reference to his immense work rate, N'golo Kante is been widely dubbed by his fans as the man who covers 30 percent of Earth (with 70% being covered by water). Interestingly, his team-mates have also lauded his efforts by composing a song in a tribute to his efforts, which became a viral sensation during the World Cup.
"We are delighted N'Golo has signed a new contract and sees his long-term future with Chelsea," said director Marina Granovskaia.
"When he arrived, we knew we had signed a special player, but he has astounded everybody with his tireless and unselfish displays.
"Off the pitch, he remains a dedicated professional and a humble human being despite the fact he is a world champion and a two-time Premier League winner.
"We now look forward to five more years with N'Golo at the heart of the Chelsea midfield."
