Olyroos' Thomas Deng backed Graham Arnold's bold claims of "shocking the world" at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics on Thursday.

The 24-year-old defender, who captained the side to a third place finish at last year's AFC Under 23 Asian Cup to secure Australia's ticket to Japan, pointed to Switzerland's shocking win over France at the European Championship as an example that nothing was certain in the sport.

This is Australia's first qualification to the Olympics since Beijing 2008. Australia's best finish at the Olympics was in 1992 where they came fourth.
