On this day - 16th May - in 2013, football icon David Beckham announced that he would end his playing days at the climax of the 2012-13 season.

Beckham brought down the curtain on a glittering career with a short spell at Paris Saint-Germain, helping the capital club clinch the Ligue-1 title.

Having made his first league appearance for Manchester United in 1995, Beckham went on to play for Real Madrid and Los Angeles Galaxy.

Beckham also had two loan spells at AC Milan before finishing his career in France, picking up 115 England caps along the way and captain his country on 59 occasions.

With his playing days far behind him, Beckham is now co-owner and president of MLS franchise Inter Miami.
