ON THIS DAY: Former Barcelona captain Puyol born in 1978

Former Barcelona and World Cup winner Carles Puyol was born on this day - April 13th - in 1978.

Puyol enjoyed an illustrious career for both club and country, winning six La Liga titles and three UEFA Champion League crowns during his 15-year spell with the Catalan club. Puyol started his career and ended it with Barca, but he similar success with the national side as he did domestically.

He was part of Spain's golden generation that won the European championship in 2008 before lifting the country's maiden World Cup in 2010.
