The Vatican employees who manage the Pope Francis’ official Twitter account made a blunder this Sunday when pontiff mistook an American football team for five new saints he canonised in St. Peter’s Square. The hashtag used by the people managing pontiff’s official Twitter account was meant for New Orleans Saints, a US-based football team who are currently competing in the 2019 edition of National Football League (NFL). As the New Orleans team were also slated to face Jacksonville Jaguars on the same day, many football fans could not help but notice the timing of the tweet to further mock Pope’s accidental ‘love and support’ towards the American team.

Pope mistakenly tweets support for US ‘Saints’ football team

The Pope Francis Twitter handle has 18.1 million followers so the tweet by the Pope immediately went viral which prompted many football fans across the world jokingly react to the blessings given by the pontiff. Even New Orleans Saints themselves took to Twitter to respond to the Pope’s tweet in the most hilarious manner. Check out below how the popular American football team responded to the tweet.

Before the Pope’s Twitter account handlers made that post, Pope Francis had declared five people as saints earlier on the same day. One of those people included Cardinal John Henry Newman, an Anglican from the 19th century who converted to Catholicism and is one of the most influential figures among Christians of modern times.
