Romelu Lukaku denies Manchester United boss Ole's role in his exit

Inter Milan forward Romelu Lukaku has stated that Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not have any role in his departure to Inter Milan last summer.

Belgium and Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku has reportedly denied the involvement of Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in his departure from Old Trafford last summer. Lukaku moved to Inter Milan last summer for a reported fee of £73m. Earlier reports claimed that Solskjaer did not want the Belgian in his side. However, the player has denied any such rumour.

According to media reports, Lukaku has claimed that the United boss wanted to keep him at the club which is contradictory to earlier claims. Lukaku did not enjoy a good time under Solskjaer with the manager preferring Marcus Rashford as his first choice striker. Ole had reportedly stated that it was time for the striker to move on after falling down in the pecking order.

Lukaku had signed for United in 2017

Lukaku reportedly stated that Solskjaer had his eternal respect. He understood Lukaku when in March 2019, he said that it was time for him to leave.

Lukaku went on to state that he had been playing in the Premier League since he was an 18-year-old boy. He added that Solskjaer wanted to keep him but he was ready for something new. Lukaku had joined Manchester United from Premier League side Everton in July 2017. He signed a five-year contract with the option of an additional year. United’s then manager Jose Mourinho was instrumental in bringing the player to Old Trafford.

Since moving to the San Siro, Lukaku has scored nine goals in 12 league games. He has also faced adversity after facing racist abuse from rival fans. On the other hand, United are yet to recover from the departure of Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan. They are yet to find their balance in the Premier League. They have been linked with a host of players like Erling Haaland and Memphis Depay.
