Ronaldo becomes 6th player in football history to score 700 goals

Juventus and Portugal forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, recently achieved a milestone wherein he reached 700 career goals in a career spanning 17 years as of date.

Juventus and Portugal forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, recently achieved a milestone wherein he reached 700 career goals in a career spanning 17 years as of date. He holds the title of the all-time top scorer in the UEFA Champions League and for his national side, Portugal. He has netted 127 times in the champions league and 94 times for Portugal.

A career-spanning 17 years

In club football, Ronaldo has scored a total of 606 goals in 812 appearances for the different clubs he has played for in his career. Ronaldo scored five goals in 31 games for Sporting Lisbon. He then scored 118 goals in 292 appearances for Manchester United, 451 goals in 438 games for Real Madrid and a total of 32 goals in 51 games for his current club, Juventus. Ronaldo has scored 94 international goals for Portugal in 161 appearances. 

Although, he has been tagged as the second-highest goalscorer in La Liga history behind Lionel Messi, who has scored 420 goals in 455 games for Barcelona.

Ronaldo is the record-breaking top-scorer in the UEFA Champions League with 127 goals in 164 appearances by scoring 15 goals for Manchester United, 105 for Real Madrid, and 7 for Juventus.

The Portuguese winger has won five UEFA Champions League titles with the first medal coming in at Manchester United during the 2008-09 season and four back to back titles for Real Madrid during 2013-14, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 season which is considered to be the biggest club achievement most in modern-day football.

Ronaldo's achievement on an international level

The forward has scored 30 times in 38 World cup qualifying games he has been a part of and has netted a total of 26 goals in the Euro qualifying matches. He has 7 goals to his credit in the FIFA World Cup and 3 goals in the UEFA Nations League tournament. Ronaldo has also scored 2 goals in the FIFA sanctioned confederations cup. 

Where he stands

With this incredible achievement, Ronaldo became the 6th player to score 700 career goals. The 'exclusive' list is topped by Josef Biscan with 805 goals, Romario with a total of 772 goals, Pele with 767 goals, Ferenc Puskas at 746 goals and former german striker Muller grabbing the 5th position with 735 career goals. 

The other players who are slightly behind Ronaldo in terms of career goals are Lionel Messi with 672 goals in 883 matches followed by former Barcelona teammate, Zlatan Ibrahimovic with a total of 542 in 913 appearances and fellow striker Luis Suarez bagging 466 goals in 738 competitive matches.
