A news conference is scheduled for November 19, with reports emerging that Spain's national coach Roberto Moreno is set to be sacked by the Royal Spanish Football Federation. The former Barcelona assistant manager failed to show up for the post-match press conference following the Spain vs Romania fixture at Atletico Madrid's Wanda Metropolitano stadium. Luis Enrique, who was the head coach of the Spanish national team before Roberto Moreno, is expected to take his place.

Luis Enrique left the Spain job in June 2019 owing to the illness and subsequent death of his daughter Xana from bone cancer in August. When Luis Enrique quit, Roberto Moreno took temporary charge of Spain. He was then appointed as head coach of Spain in the same month.

Roberto Moreno's exit on the cards

Roberto Moreno's departure will mean that this will be Spain's fifth managerial change since June last year. Julen Lopetegui was sacked just two days before the 2018 World Cup, after he agreed to take over the managerial reigns at Real Madrid following the World Cup in Russia. Fernando Hierro then took over from Lopetegui. However, following a penalty shootout loss to hosts Russia in the Round of 16, Hierro stepped down from his post as head coach of Spain. Luis Enrique then took over from Fernando Hierro in July 2018, over a year after managing FC Barcelona.

Royal Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales and sporting director Jose Francisco Molina will hold a news conference on Tuesday as they look to put an end to the speculation surrounding the Spain job. In September earlier this year, Roberto Moreno said that he would step down as manager of Spain if Luis Enrique were to return. However, Moreno is thought to have been upset that president Luis Rubiales put off talk concerning who till take chare of the Spanish national team in the Euros next year.
