Tahith Chong decides against signing new Manchester United contract

Reportedly, Manchester United right-winger, Tahith Chong, has decided against signing a new contract with the Red Devils as he last played for the senior team in a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the month of October. Manager of Manchester United Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made the 19-year-old winger play in only four matches so far with two substitute appearances in the Premier League.

'Tahith is quietly waiting for an extension offer from United'

With Chong's contract expiring at the end of 2019-20 season, the player's manager, Erkan Alkan, said that Tahith is waiting for an extension offer from the Red Devils. Alkan also admitted the fact that a few other top clubs were interested in acquiring the services of the young United player.

According to reports, the Italian club, Juventus, have shown a keen interest in signing the player. With Chong not signing a new contract with Manchester United, the winger will be departing from Old Trafford as a free agent with the possibility of Juventus securing his services.

Chong's situation might be similar to Paul Pogba's before the Frenchman left for Juventus in the year 2012. However, Chong has not been so vocal about his desire to leave United as Pogba was in 2012.

'The best performance of the season'

A confident Solskjaer said that his team delivered the best performance of the season as they beat Brighton 3-1 in a thrilling encounter at Old Trafford on November 10. UK media has reported a 'sense of positivity around the team' as they head for an international break after having beat Brighton.

Ole was of the opinion that it was their best performance of the season as the reaction he saw to United scoring three goals was fantastic. He said that it was great to see the players enjoy themselves during the match and that probably helped them strive for a result. Ole also highlighted that since the time they had a 1-1 draw against Liverpool, they have registered a total of 5 wins and one defeat.

The only defeat that the Red Devils suffered after the Liverpool game was a narrow 1-0 defeat against Bournemouth. Solskjaer said that obviously it was a disappointing result against Bournemouth but they had a lot of answers as to what the team was trying to do and achieve.
