Villarreal squad members have undergone medical tests in preparation for a return to training and the eventual resumption of the Spanish football season, as the coronavirus pandemic abates.

Pictures released by the club showed players and medical staff wearing personal protection equipment (PPE) as the tests were conducted, following approval by the Spanish Health Ministry.

The club say that the plan is for the playing staff to go through the testing procedures over Tuesday and Wednesday, before they return to the club's training ground for individual fitness sessions on Thursday.

Group activity is then scheduled to be phased in, with a return to competiton envisaged for June.

Over the course of this period, according to the club, Villarreal's training grounds will be closed to everyone except players, team officials (including medical staff), and La Liga representatives.
