Virgil van Dijk has changed the dynamics of Liverpool football since the time he made a move to Anfield from Southampton back in January 2018. The Netherland-based defender is a very worthy contender to win the Ballon D'Or this year after leading Liverpool to Champions League glory last season and in giving a tough fight to Manchester City in their Premier League 2019-20 title chase. While talking to a leading British media portal, Virgil van Dijk revealed that other English giants like Manchester City and Chelsea were very much interested to sign him up but Liverpool eventually grabbed him for £75million.
Virgil van Dijk revealed that he made the decision, keeping many things in mind before making the move to Anfield. The defender stated that he always goes with his gut feeling and Liverpool gave him a good vibe since the time they showed their interest in the defender. However, the £75-million worth defender added that he was flattered by seeing other major clubs showing their interest to seal his services.
According to van Dijk, he chose Liverpool keeping many factors on his mind. He said that the Reds were the strongest in multiple factors like the coach, the squad, their playing style and most importantly the culture of the club and fans. He was very impressed with the way Liverpool planned their future and stated that it's very important for him to be a part of it in the coming years. The defender admitted that he is happy and glad that he made the decision to join Liverpool.
This team never gives up. Big three points against a strong side, looking forward to the next couple of weeks! 💪😁 pic.twitter.com/gHx0dFkCFD— Virgil van Dijk (@VirgilvDijk) October 28, 2019
