Indian Women’s Rugby team of 26 members to represent the country at Asia Rugby Women’s Championship.

The Indian Women’s Rugby XVs team who will represent the country at the Asia Rugby Women’s Championship was announced recently. The 26-member squad led by captain Vahbiz Bharucha will grace the field at Southern Plains Sports Field, Manila, the Philippines on June 17 where the championship will be held till June 23, 2019. This championship will reportedly decide which from around the world will participate in the 2021 Women’s Rugby World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in New Zealand.

The squad who made its international debut last was part of a 15-day Indian National Training camp held in Bhubaneswar from 2nd to 16th June. The players who will represent the country in the International platform were selected from different parts of the country. Seven players from Odisha have made the cut to the national representation. The shortlisting was reportedly done during the All India Division 1 and Division 2 tournaments, which were held in Mumbai and Ludhiana days back. 

Team India will reportedly face Singapore, Philippines, and China at the grounds.  It already departed for Manila on Sunday, 16th June 2019.

Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Sport and Youth Services, Government of Odisha, Vishal K Dev extended best wishes to the team for the upcoming championship. Meanwhile, Chief Coach Ludwuiche Van Deventer also spoke on the team composition and said that he is proud of the team and said that they have demonstrated great passion and commitment to advance their skills and this tournament could be a great platform to showcase them.
