Conor McGregor announces UFC comeback, talks about Khabib rematch

On Thursday, Conor McGregor announced that he will be returning to the UFC in January 2020. Read more as we look at the opponents Conor looks to face.

Conor McGregor, in a press conference on Thursday, revealed that he will be returning to the UFC in 2020. This development comes after McGregor announced his retirement from the sport in March of 2019. This is McGregor second time coming out of retirement.

McGregor aims at multiple fights in 2020

McGregor, who is known for his expletive-laden ultra-expressive personality, was asked about returning to the UFC in the press conference. McGregor, in return, made the announcement that he would make his UFC return on January 18, 2020 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. McGregor further said that he knew the opponent he would be facing in his comeback fight but was choosing to not reveal to the media as the UFC would end up changing the match card.

Hinting on having more fights in 2020, Conor referred to his comeback fight as "the beginning of my(his) season." McGregor added that he looks to compete against the winner of the Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal fixture. Referring to the history he and Diaz share, McGregor added that he looks to fight the third bout with Diaz but does not know how things will shape up.

Trash-talks Khabib Nurmagomedov

Speaking about famous rival Khabib Nurmagomedov, McGregor said that he looks forward to a rematch with the Russian who defeated him in his final UFC bout before his hiatus. The Irish man further aggravated his persona as he called Khabib a "bu**h**e sniffer" in typical Conor McGregor fashion. McGregor was referring to Nurmagomedov's ground-based fighting style. Conor added that he believes that the world deserves the "inevitable" rematch and McGregor wants to remain focused enough to give the world, exactly that. He mentioned how he wanted to fight the winner of Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov in Moscow, Russia.
