Houston Rockets take on the San Antonio Spurs in a pre-season NBA game on Thursday, October 17 at 5.30 AM IST. The Southwest rivalry between the Rockets and Spurs is set for another clash when the two teams face off at the Toyota Center in Houston. The Rockets have recently traded All-Star Cris Paul for a young and talented point guard Russell Westbrook. The eight-time NBA All-Star now joins seven-time NBA All-Star James Harden to create what is likely to be the toughest backcourt in the competition.

Last season, Houston Rockets clinched the South West division title despite early struggles in the season. They lost the Western Conference semifinals to eventual winners, Golden State Warriors. Despite having an uneventful summer this season, they have had a decent start to their pre-season games, losing just once in four games so far. They boast a strong squad in Westbrook, Harden, Clint Capela and P.J. Tucker to name a few. However, the Rockets could see Geral Green sitting out for the remainder of the season after he was sidelined with a broken foot.

LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan were the only consistent players for the Spurs in the South West division against the Rockets last season as the Spurs lost the final. They also lost to Denver Nuggets in the first round of the Playoffs. The Spurs have started the pre-season poorly as well, having lost all of their games they've played so far. Although their rivalry seems to get the best out of both the sides, Spurs will be hoping for a good game come Wednesday. They hold two first-round draft picks in the form of the Croatian, Luka Samanic and Keldon Johnson. Dejounte Murray's return from his ACL injury is expected to boost the Spurs as well.
