Swiss freestyler Fanny Smith made history at the Swedish resort of Idre Fjall on Sunday after winning a record 27th World Cup ski cross event.

Smith drew level with French ace Ophelie David's record of 26 victories when she won over a sprint course in Fjall earlier in the week and went one better in the second of this weekend's long course races.

Alizee Baron of France took second place ahead of Canada's Marielle Thompson of Canada.

Switzerland's Talina Gantenbein was edged out of the medals.

Smith's latest ladmark extends her advantage at the top of this season's World Cup standings - she now has 585 points to Thompson's 378.

Baron lies third on 330.
