All Blacks star Beauden Barrett says he has no regrets about his decision to move to Japan even as the government weighs imposing a new state of emergency on the Tokyo region after a spike in COVID-19 cases.

Barrett was introduced by his new club Suntory Sungoliath on Wednesday and said he is confident the Japanese government can handle the situation as he begins a lucrative short term contract in the country.

The 29-year-old said he had considered playing in France, but chose Japan because of the chance to experience a different culture and for the opportunity to get playing time as a No. 10 on Suntory.
