Pressure is on hosts Japan as karate makes its Olympic debut in Tokyo

The sport of karate will make its Olympic debut in its ancestral home this week at the Tokyo Olympics.

The Japanese martial art was approved for Tokyo through a new IOC rule that allows host nations to propose additional sports for inclusion in their Games.

With karate having a limited time on the Olympics astage, the pressure is on the Japanese team to prove they are the world's best practioners on home soil.
