Former World Champion & double Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar will be seen in action in the 74kg category at the World Wrestling Championship tomorrow

It will be a big day for Indian wrestling as India's biggest name in wrestling history - former World Champion & double Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar will be seen in action in the 74kg category at the World Wrestling Championship in Noor Sultan, Kazakhstan tomorrow. Indian wrestling fans will be keenly following the proceedings as India's only double Olympic medallist Sushil will make his long-awaited return to the Championships after eight years.

First hurdle

The 2010 world champion will begin his hunt for a second gold medal against European Championships bronze medallist Khadzhimurad Gadzhiyev in qualifying. He has been placed in the same half as the second seed and multiple World Championships gold medallist Jordan Burroughs whom he can meet in the quarter-finals. Sushil is the only Indian to have won gold medal in World Wrestling Champion but in 66 kg category and all eyes will be on him to see whether he can repeat similar performance in a much higher 74 kg weight category.

India's other representations

In 92kg, Praveen Kumar will start from the qualifying rounds against Korea’s Sue. In 125kg, reigning Commonwealth Games champion Sumit Malik will take the mat against two-time European Championships medallist Dániel Ligeti of Hungary while in 70kg, Karan will be up against 2016 Olympic bronze medallist Ikhtiyor Navruzov in their respective qualifying bouts.
