The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games unveiled its latest 5G project ahead of the Olympics that is due to start in three weeks.

In collaboration with NTT DOCOMO, Inc., Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT), and Intel Corporation, Tokyo 2020 will employ high-speed 5G technologies at sailing, swimming and golf venues, aiming to provide new ways of sports-viewing experiences to spectators and foreign media.

Yasuo Miki, Tokyo 2020 Chief Technology Innovation Officer, told a news conference on Thursday that the latest technologies enable spectators to watch the Games, avoiding the "three Cs" — close distance, closed space and close conversation.

The Olympics set to open on July 23.
