Conor McGregor recently announced his return to the UFC after infamously declaring his retirement from the sport earlier this year. McGregor has said that his comeback fight will be in Vegas and on January 18 but had not revealed an opponent. It is now being reported that his opponent in the fight will most probably be eight-year UFC veteran Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone.

Both parties are in talks

Talking to a news outlet, McGregor's manager, Audie Attar, revealed that talks have been going on between the two camps to set up the fight for January 18. He signalled that the deal is almost done and nothing should change until some unforeseen problems pop up. Attar added that Cerrone is a great fighter for the bout as he is a fan favourite and very fight-oriented. He also acknowledged how excited the fans are to see 'The Notorious' Conor McGregor make a comeback into the Octagon. There was an alleged attempt to set up this fight earlier this year but an injury McGregor sustained, delayed the bout.

McGregor had announced his retirement from MMA through this tweet made in March but last month, in a press conference, he revealed that he was indeed coming back to the UFC. McGregor referred to the fight on January 18, 2020 as the beginning of his season and also revealed that he wanted to fight the winner of the BMF Title match (which turned out to be Jorge Masvidal). He has also talked about a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov. McGregor had suffered a loss against Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 and that was the last time he was seen in the MMA Octagon.
