USA swimmer Ryan Murphy says family received online abuse after doping claim

United States Olympic swimmer Ryan Murphy said his family has received abusive messages after he made a doping claim after winning silver in the 200-meter backstroke on Saturday.

United States Olympic swimmer Ryan Murphy said his family has received abusive messages after he made a doping claim after winning silver in the 200-meter backstroke on Saturday.

Murphy's charge that he was unsure the race was clean was taken as a shot at Russian winner Evgeny Rylov.

He backtracked on Sunday, saying he was not calling any particualt athlete bit reiterated that doping in swimming remains a major problem.

But Murphy's American teammate Lilly King didn't hold back, saying Russia should have been banned and called their punishment for a state-run doping programme and subsequent cover-up a "slap on the wrist".
