Outgoing Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas has expressed his thoughts on his five season-long careers with the team in Formula One by admitting he wanted to earn a championship with Mercedes. Bottas is all set to race for the Alfa Romeo from the coming season, as his seat at the Silver Arrows is now booked for George Russell. As the Formula One 2021-22 season heads into its last leg with the Brazillian Grand Prix at Sao Paulo on November 20, Bottas also reflected upon his journey so far as the teammate of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.

As per GP Fans talking on Formula One’s Beyond the Grid podcast, Bottas admitted that he wanted to be the best and become the champion. Explaining the same, Bottas said, “So in a way that kind of feels like a failure, that I haven't been able to achieve that with Mercedes. But I've tried everything. I've given everything. It just wasn't meant to be”. At the same time, Bottas termed Hamilton for being the 'king of consistency' and hailed him for delivering every time he gets into the car.

Valtteri Bottas praises Lewis Hamilton for consistent performances

Bottas laid down the main difference between him and his world champion teammate by saying Hamilton has been impressive in recent years by always being in the moment despite the situation he is in. As reported by GP Fans, adding more about Hamilton on Beyond the Grid, Bottas said, “The thing is, there were some seasons that I started pretty strong, then there were unlucky moments, or maybe I had a bad race or two. Lewis always kept performing in a really consistent way, all the time. Once there was then a bit of a gap in the points, obviously, the focus starts to shift to the car that is most likely going to win the championship."

During the Turkish Grand Prix last month, Bottas earned his maiden victory in the F1 2021-22 season be finishing ahead of Red Bull pair Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. In the last race he started during the Mexican GP in the previous week, Bottas had an average race as he finished down at 15th after starting the race from pole position. Bottas is all set to race in this weekend’s Brazilian GP, which will be important for Mercedes in the Formula One 2021 Constructors Championship run.
