Major League Baseball players reported in full for summer camp on Friday as the league prepares to start a season shortened by the coronavirus pandemic and contentious labor talks between players and management.

Minnesota Twins Japanse righthander Kenta Maeda threw off the mound in his new home park after coming over in the offseason from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The defending American League champion Houston Astros prepared under the watch of the new manager Dusty Baker, who took over after A.J. Hinch was suspended for the 2020 season as punishment for a sign-stealing scandal during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

The Astros were without reigning American League rookie of the year Yordan Alvarez, who was not in camp on Friday and the club would not explain why leading to speculation the slugger had possibly tested positive for the coronavirus.
