Andy Murray set to play for Great Britain in Davis Cup Finals

Murray, who will be part of the squad for 1st time since 2016, had stated his intention to play in the finals as Great Britain face Netherlands and Kazakhstan.

Andy Murray was named in the Great Britain Davis Cup squad for the next month's inaugural Davis Cup finals. Murray who will be part of the squad for the first time since 2016 had already stated his intention to play in the finals. Great Britain, who won the title in 2015, face the Netherlands and Kazakhstan in the group stage on 20 and 21 November.

Andy Murray triumph at the European Open

The British tennis star is currently in great form after Sunday’s stunning victory over Stan Wawrinka in the finals of the European Open in Antwerp. The victory in the final also ensured his place in the team after making his comeback from hip surgery. Team GB coach Leon Smith was full of praise for te fellow Brit and said that It's been fantastic to see Andy back competing again.

Davis Cup Finals: Great Britain team and schedule

Captain Leon Smith has named Dan Evans, doubles pair Jamie Murray and Neal Skupski, in his initial team with a fifth player still to be decided. Kyle Edmund has not been included in the side. The former British No1 player will be battling with Cameron Norrie for the fifth place in the team.

Davis Cup finals: Great Britain captain Leon Smith thoughts on the team

Speaking to media, the skipper felt that the team are in a good position with strength and depth. He said that the fifth player will be chosen in the next couple of weeks. The skipper also praised Dan Evans and said that he is playing some of the best tennis of his career and deserves his place back inside the world's top 50.

Britain was given a wildcard for the event, which now has18 nations compete across six groups in Madrid. The group winners - as well as the two second-placed teams with the best records - progress to the quarter-finals, with the semi-finals and final taking place on 23 and 24 November. Matches will consist of two singles and one doubles rubber, all played over three sets on a hard court at the Caja Magica.
