Defending Champion Alexander Zverev's chance to reach the semi-final of the ATP Nitto open 2019 hit the roadblock after losing his semi-final match to Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets 3-6, 2-6. For Tsitsipas, the victory over defending champion helped him reach his maiden semi-finals joining Dominic Thiem. Earlier, Zverev had defeated the No.1 seed Rafael Nadal in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 in their first round-robin match of the Andre Agassi group on Monday.

Tsitsipas broke Zverev n the opening game and the fifth game of the second set as Zverev struggled to produce the same level of tennis that propelled him to victory against Nadal on Monday. The Greek pounced on the German's second serve, which had been the problem earlier in the season. The German won only 28% (5/18) of those points.
