Australia survive a scare but beat Great Britain 2-1, enters semifinals of ATP Cup

Australia survived a scare but prevailed over Great Britain 2-1 to reach the semifinals of the ATP Cup in Sydney, Australia on Thursday.

Australia survived a scare but prevailed over Great Britain 2-1 to reach the semifinals of the ATP Cup in Sydney, Australia on Thursday. The hosts took the lead as expected after Nick Kyrgios trounced Cameron Norrie in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 - the Aussie mixing some brilliant touch and power play against the inexperienced Brit.

In the second singles, Daniel Evans played out of his skin to beat the in-form Alex de Minaur in three tough sets. Evans won 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-2 (2).

In the deciding doubles, the suprise duo of Nicky Kyrgios and Alex de Minaur survived couple of matchpoints before beating Jamie Murray and Joe Salisbury in a super-tie break after the teams has split the two sets. Kyrgios and de Minaur won 3-6, 6-3, 18-16. Australia advance to the semifinals and will now take on the winner of quarter final between Rafael Nadal-led Spain and Belgium.
