World number two Novak Djokovic was forced to dig deep but still beat Denis Shapavalov in a pivotal singles match as Serbia sweep Canada 3-0 to march into the semifinals of the ATP Cup in Sydney, Australia on Friday.

Djokovic dropped the first set 4-6 but prevailed in three as he beat Shapavalov 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4) to give Serbia an unassailable 2-0 and win the tie against Canada.

Earlier, Dusan Lajovic snuffed out Felix Auger-Alissame's challenge in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 to put Serbia up.

Later, the Serbian combination of Nikola Cacic and Viktor Troicki outclassed Adil Shamasdin and Peter Polansky 6-3, 6-2 to make it 3-0 clean sweep for Serbia.

Djokovic's Serbia will take on Russia in the semifinal on Saturday.
