After being postponed a day, the first day of the ATP Cup in Melbourne did not disappoint.

It was world number one Novak Djokovic who took on Canada's Denis Shapovalov in Group A and the 21-year-old did not shy away.

The pair were pretty equal until the tiebreak in the first set and it was the Serbian who managed to secure it as Shapovalov failed to return his volley.

It was pretty much the same in the second set, as the the two battled it out for just under an hour, but nobody does it better than Mr Novak Djokovic - a true masterclass from the Serb.

The Canadian suffered three double faults in the second set which left Djokovic to claim the victory and set the defending champions up to a fantastic start to the campaign.

Up next was Dominic Thiem of Austria who had to get past Italy's Matteo Berrettini.

Despite starting well, the world number three lost two serves in the opening set eventually losing it 6-2.

The Italian continued to storm away in the second set taking the first four games - an incredible performance from Berrettini to earn Italy the victory in Melbourne.
