Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic won their second Australian Open women's doubles crown in three years on Friday, beating top seeds Hsieh Su-Wei and Barbora Strycova 6-2, 6-1.

Babos and Mladenovic made only four unforced errors in a dominant display.

With the temperature soaring to 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43 Celsius), the mixed doubles semifinals and women’s doubles final were played under a closed roof on the main court at Melbourne Park.

A brief rain shower helped lower the temperature to about 100 degrees (40 Celsius) during the late afternoon.

Great Britain's Jamie Murray moved a step closer to an eighth Grand Slam doubles title as he and Bethanie Mattek-Sands reached the Australian Open final.

Murray and American Mattek-Sands saw off Australian wild cards Astra Sharma and John-Patrick Smith 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

They will face fifth seeds Barbora Krejcikova from the Czech Republic and Croatia's Nikola Mektic on Saturday.
