Former world number one Andy Murray has pulled out of the ATP Delray Beach Open in Florida, not because of injury concerns but due to worry about rising Covid-19 cases and the transatlantic travel involved.
Murray, who was due to start his 2021 season at the tournament, said he wanted to minimise the risk ahead of the Australian Open, which starts on 8th February.
The 33-year-old British player, now ranked 122 in the world, is a five-time runner-up at the Australian Open, and was given a wildcard into the event.
Murray played just seven official matches this year because of ongoing hip problems following surgery.
