Novak Djokovic's bid for a ninth Australian Open championship was thrown into doubt on Friday after he took a fall in the second set of his third round match against Taylor Fritz of the United States.

Djokovic received medical attention, but the side muscle injury clearly affected the reigning champion, as he saw a two set lead evaporate.

Fritz forced a fifth and deciding set, but Djokovic dug deep and eventually closed out a 7-6(1), 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-2 victory after three hours and 27 minutes on court.
